Two samples of recently pressed Chardonnay sit atop French Oak barrels in the cellar of Hermann Wiemer's winery in Dundee, New York.

Wiemer, an immigrant from Germany, has used French rootstock and winemaking techniques to create world-class white wines in an area once known for jug wines produced from indigenous American grapes.
